Steve Davis

Steve Davis, Metal Worker

Steve Davis of Sunheart Metalworks has been exploring process and material all his life. He was first entranced by the creative process watching craftspeople at work at Greenfield Village, near Detroit. A summer job in 1969 at an art metal studio that primarily made store displays was his first experience working with hot metal. After receiving a B.S. degree from the Ohio State University in 1974, Steve worked as a potter, carpenter, and welder. His interest in blacksmithing began in earnest after reading The Art of Blacksmithing, by Alex Bealer. This inspiring book led him to begin collecting old blacksmithing tools at auctions and flea markets.

A member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America since its early days, Steve Davis has had the opportunity to study and learn from some of the finest blacksmiths in the country through conferences and workshops. He is also a member of the Alabama Forge Council and the American Craft Council.

Steve Davis has collaborated with individuals, architects, and interior designers. He understands what it takes to make an idea or concept into reality. In his Sunheart Metalworks studio, located at the Kentuck Art Center in Northport, Alabama, Steve finds that many people appreciate the craftsmanship of forged metal and love to handle his work and ask about it.
